“When I grow up/I’m gonna look up from my phone/And see my life” — Phoebe Bridgers, “Garden Song”

It’s been a while, hasn’t it? I was surprised to find that my last post was December 2021. Christmas day, to be exact. What was I thinking?

(I really hope I wrote it before then and scheduled it to post on the day, but I honestly cannot remember.)

I could bore you, reader, with all that has happened since, but I’m sure you won’t care for how my family and I pass the sandy hills of time. The main highlights: we bought a house, I got a new job, our baby girl is now a wilfull, hilarious toddler.

My backing away from Medium — as both a writer and a reader — was not intentional. At least not at first. It was, I suppose, a product of the weird online ecosystems we reside in. I lost motivation to write, and so contributed less in the various Medium-related Facebook groups I was a part of. In turn, I saw less of them in my feed and less updates from my Medium writer online friends. To an extent, Medium ceased to exist.

When I did venture the website, I was greeted with largely the same writing: get-rich-quick exhortations from self-appointed Medium gurus, pleas for followers from new writers…
